Discover Prof. Piccirillo\u2019s project focused on developing an advanced human immunology platform.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While preclinical studies are valuable, they provide only limited insights into the efficacy and safety of vaccines under development. Advanced human immunology platforms offer a more powerful alternative for vaccine discovery and characterization, providing the industry with an essential advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Piccirillo\u2019s team will develop an advanced human immunology platform designed to generate crucial information for vaccine development\u2014such as a better understanding of mechanisms of action, as well as data to reduce risk and fully characterize vaccine candidates. This platform will help scientists and companies developing new vaccines to better assess their products and the immune responses they trigger.<\/p>\n<p>The platform will function as a comprehensive toolkit, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A human tonsil organoid model<\/li>\n<li>A super-resolution microscopy technique<\/li>\n<li>Multi-institutional teams developing assays to evaluate B- and T-cell responses<\/li>\n<li>Artificial intelligence tools generating comprehensive profiles of vaccine-induced responses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This research activity will involve collaborators actively contributing to tool development. Several researchers are joining the project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"63\" data-end=\"110\"><strong data-start=\"114\" data-end=\"185\">Drs. Brian Ward, Gregory Fonseca, Bruce Mazer, and Martin Olivier<\/strong> from the RI-MUHC<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"63\" data-end=\"110\"><strong data-start=\"207\" data-end=\"229\">Dr. Paul Wiseman<\/strong> from McGill University<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"257\" data-end=\"311\"><strong data-start=\"257\" data-end=\"279\">Dr. Andr\u00e9s Finzi<\/strong> from the CHUM Research Centre<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"257\" data-end=\"311\"><strong data-start=\"314\" data-end=\"340\">Dr. Natan Bensoussan<\/strong> from the CIUSSS-NIM<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"365\" data-end=\"434\"><strong data-start=\"365\" data-end=\"408\">Drs. H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Decaluwe and Morgan Craig<\/strong> from CHU Sainte-Justine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Industrial partners include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cellcarta.com\/\"><strong>CellCarta<\/strong><\/a>, strengthening T-cell phenotyping efforts<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aramisbiotechnologies.com\/en\/\"><strong>Aramis Biotechnologies<\/strong><\/a>, providing vaccines and human volunteer samples for proof-of-concept studies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This project is supported by the Government of Quebec through M\u00e9dicament Qu\u00e9bec, which is investing $1.5 million.
